What DDP into the US covers

Every component named — nothing billed on delivery.

US customs adds layers that most DDP quotes quietly round off: MPF, HMF, Section 301, and the customs bond. We itemise each one so the landed cost you agree is the landed cost you pay.

Freight and origin

Ocean or air from Shenzhen, Shanghai, or Ningbo. Export clearance, origin handling, and B/L issuance all included.

HTS classification

Duty is driven by classification, so the HTS code is settled before quoting. Section 301 exposure is checked at the same time.

Duty + MPF + HMF

Import duty at the HTS rate, MPF at 0.3464% subject to minimum and maximum caps, and HMF at 0.125% on ocean shipments.

Final-mile delivery

Drayage from the port and trucking to your door, DC, or Amazon FBA appointment — included in the one number.

Where DDP into the US goes wrong

The DDP quotes you should walk away from.

Section 301

No Section 301 check

Many China-origin HTS codes carry additional Section 301 tariffs on top of standard duty. A DDP quote that does not check your classification is either guessing or hiding the cost — both surface later as a supplementary invoice or a misdeclaration.

IOR

Nobody named as IOR

Someone has to be legally responsible for the CBP entry. If the quote does not say who the importer of record is, the answer is usually nobody — which is a problem discovered at the border.

Compliance

Under-declared value

Cheap DDP is sometimes cheap because the declared value is wrong. That exposure sits with the importer, not the forwarder who quoted it.

Itemised landed cost

What sits inside one DDP number into the United States.

A DDP quote that will not break these out is asking you to trust a round figure. Ours names each component so you can compare it against a FOB quote properly — and Section 301 exposure is flagged at classification, not after entry.

US customs & compliance under DDP

The filing calendar and fee structure we handle on your behalf.

US import clearance is unusually deadline-driven — the ISF must reach CBP 24 hours before loading in China. Under DDP we handle the full calendar and settle every fee, so nothing is billed to you on delivery.

How it works

Classify, itemise, move, deliver.

01 — Classify

HTS code and Section 301

Duty, MPF, HMF, and Section 301 exposure all follow from classification. We settle the HTS code first so the DDP number is real, not guessed.

02 — Itemise

Break out the landed cost

Freight, entry, duty, MPF, HMF, Section 301, bond, and delivery are shown separately and totalled — with the importer of record named in writing.

03 — Move

Ship and file ISF

Cargo moves on the agreed mode. ISF is filed 24 hours before loading, and entry documents are prepared to CBP deadlines.

04 — Deliver

Cleared, paid, delivered

Duty, MPF, HMF settled by us, CBP entry filed, and cargo delivered to your door, DC, or Amazon FBA. No release invoice reaches you.

FAQ

China → USA DDP shipping FAQ

How DDP works, MPF and HMF, Section 301, importer of record, and Amazon FBA delivery. Don't see yours? An agent answers it in minutes.

How does DDP shipping to the USA work?

Under DDP, one number covers freight, CBP entry, import duty at the HTS rate, MPF at 0.3464%, HMF at 0.125% on ocean shipments, Section 301 tariffs where they apply, the customs bond, and final-mile delivery. We classify the product, itemise every component, name the importer of record, and settle all fees with CBP. Nothing is billed to you on delivery.

What is MPF and how is it calculated?

MPF — Merchandise Processing Fee — is a CBP ad valorem fee of 0.3464% of the entered value, subject to a minimum and maximum cap that adjust periodically. It applies to both air and ocean imports. We include it as a named line in the DDP quote rather than folding it into a round figure.

What is HMF and does it apply to air freight?

HMF — Harbor Maintenance Fee — is 0.125% of the value of the goods and applies only to ocean freight imports, not air. Under DDP we include HMF on ocean shipments and exclude it from air, which is one reason the itemised breakdown matters: a DDP quote that does not separate MPF from HMF is not telling you what you are paying for.

How do Section 301 tariffs affect DDP shipping to the US?

Section 301 tariffs apply to many China-origin HTS classifications on top of standard duty, and the rate varies by product. Because duty follows classification, we check your HTS code against the current Section 301 list before quoting — a DDP number built on a wrong or unexamined code is wrong in whichever direction you discover later.

Who is the importer of record on a DDP shipment to the US?

It must be established before booking. Depending on the product and arrangement it may be us, a designated import entity, or you. The answer determines who carries the compliance exposure if the entry is later questioned, which is why we put it in writing on the quote rather than leaving it implied.

Can you deliver DDP to Amazon FBA in the US?

Yes, where the product, importer arrangement, and fulfilment centre qualify. Amazon will not act as importer of record, so DDP into FBA requires the IOR question to be settled explicitly. We itemise duty, MPF, HMF, bond, and delivery so DDP into FBA is an operating decision rather than a vague assurance.
